OpenSUSE is certainly one of the most comfortable and user friendly distributions, with long tradition and business applications behind. It’s waaay more easy to install it and use than *Ubuntu, for instance. Even putting Ubuntu on this list is really questionable, considering it’s a product mostly for community of developers. Don’t tak this article seriously.

I agree about Mint’s default icons being ugly. Yet I use Mint Mate, which allows you to install the Mate themes and icons which are great. I use the TraditionalOK themes and icons. Ugly icons seem to be the future. Ubuntu Mate switched to Yaru and I hear a lot of complaints about Yaru.

Fedora only got out of the box support to play MP3 audio files about 2 years ago or less. I would therefore suggest that because of Fedora’s restrictive policy on software, it is not a good choice for a neophyte who will not know what to do when things do no work.

If you called it “10 good distributions for beginners” I would agree, but “Top ten” presums there was some measurement and ranking and these were the top ten in the list. Where is the list? What were the measures? How was the ranking done and by whom? There is no evidence here that these ten are better or worse than any other ten randomly chosen! How about some context?

“Legacy looking distro”

Legacy menu-driven desktop

Excuse me, have you ever heard of the word ‘old’?

The cons for mint are there, because the box would be empty otherwise? 😉
Your surely know that theming cinnamon is just a download away if you want a different-than-out-of-the-box look, say, like chrome-os, mac-os, windows etc 🙂

btw: for me, the elemtary-os icons are even uglier than those of mint 😉

Their on-boarding is amazing and exposes the user to options like Flatpak and Lutris, as well as having simple theme and UX Layout changer.

My ranking among the ones I’ve used would be something like this: Pop OS > Mint > Zorin OS > Ubuntu > Deepin > Fedora > Linux Lite > elementary OS.

Nice article regardless, always nice to see these sort of lists that are up to date and come from actual experience.
